    Default font embedding difficulties

This is always an issue. Why will some fonts not show up, why is it so difficult to get fonts to embed? Any tips?

    This is always an issue

Well, no it isn't always. If you can give specific details about what you are doing and why it's a problem perhaps some tips would be forthcoming.

Show up where? Exact symptoms please?
    >why is it so difficult to get fonts to embed?
I never found it hard - except for fonts with licensing issues, which
aren't supposed to. The distiller log may be the starting point. If
you have messages there please copy and paste it ALL.

What are you distilling? A common cause of this problem is distilling
an EPS file, which is not usually a good idea.

Which of the fonts are you referring to when you say "the font
    exists"?

    Jude,
up from version 5 the Distiller doesn't use any more the fonts installed with ATM (in version 4 it did). You have to copy the fonts either in one of the system folders or in one the Resource/Font folder of Acrobat.
You can check the font folders where Distiller searches via the menu item Settings - Font Locations. You may also add a new font folder in this dialog.
In general you should take care to embed the fonts directly in the PostScript file.

I just received a new computer and I have OSX but my software is not upgraded so OS 9 runs the software. I am having a problem embedding my fonts in distiller, a problem I never used to have before. I have my settings set up for specific job options and I am using acrobat 4.0. Please someone help me with the problem in embedding these fonts.

Embedding font problems...it is using Courier to replace every font on the page. ArialNarrow, CenturySchoolbook, CenturyGothic and BookmanOldStyle.

    These errors do not indicate a problem with Distiller or its options;
and not a font embedding issue. Rather it is exactly what it says. The
font cannot be found. If Distiller can't find the font, it is
    helpless.

Assuming you are making a file from a Classic application, go to
printer setup and make sure Font Inclusion: All is selected.

    Tracy,

You have not even told us what application you are using - but I am
    assuming it's Quark Xpress?

If so, then the default style sheet can promote the default font into
the postscript file - but then Distiller realises that it is not
required and produces this error. Now, if your Distiller font options
are set to CANCEL JOB if the embedding fails then we know it is a false
    error ....

    Does this make sense?

Also, sometimes fonts like QuarkXPress are used for things like plate
labels - and prepared for that even if you don't have any!
