    Default Font Issue in Acrobat

    Whenever I create a pdf or ps file from InDesign and try to later open it in Acrobat to try and edit the file, it at first lets me edit the file, but when I go to save the file, it tells me that the font could not be embedded because the font stored on the page and the system font are encoded differently. Someone PLEASE help. Thanks!

    Please give your versions for InDesign and Acrobat.

    In general, it's better to do the editing in InDesign rather than in the PDF file.

    Well I am actually working at a printing company, and currently InDesign is the CS3 version, and Acrobat is the latest with what 7.0 or 8.0? The only reason why I am not editing the file is because I am importing the file into Prinergy, which is a way to get the file ready for printing plates. It would be ideal to edit the file in Acrobat. It is also interesting to note that I was able to edit the text with no problems under an older version of Acrobat, but we are not able to revert back to an older version, so that is not efficient.

    Acrobat 8 is definitely pickier about editing text than earlier versions of Acrobat. I've gotten that message as well. Do you have Pitstop Professional? It might be able to do the edit.

    This is a known issue with no solution.

    <http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=332579>

    The same doc applies to your issue. Essentially the issue is that when the font is saved to pdf it is renamed with a TT extension. Then when you try to edit the font and use the font that was originally used in the doc in InDesign the font encoding or font name is different and thus you get the error. This is actually expected behavior. However if you ignore the warning it will go ahead and make the change.

    Good Luck!

    I have this problem with PDF's I create from Acrobat itself and PDF's received from other sources. this applies even in ACrobat Pro 7 or Pro 8.

    Does the same thing apply?

    Thank you Gene for your input, however, I am seeing problems later down the road for output. Especially with making plates for presses. Any other solutions? Appreciate it though.
