Font menu ... building
Hi,
This is my first message on the board and I have a tricky problem:
InDesign CS2 and FontAgent Pro 3.1:
Often, in the font menu InDesign displays e.g.:
[Syntax LT Std] ... building
How can I fix that problem? In FontAgent, Syntax is activated though. But InDesign displays the font as missing.
On InDesignSecrets David Blatner talked about the Updating FontMenu-feature in the Shortcuts menu (Text and tables at the bottom) but that does not work for me ...
Thanks a lot.
Greeting from Luxembourg,
Sacha

Re: Font menu ... building
Do you need font previews? I don't; Suitcase has that feature if I need it (don't know much about FAP).
Anyway, you can turn off font previews in your ID preferences; maybe that'll help.

Re: Font menu ... building
you can turn off font previews
Yes, I can turn of the preview, but then the Syntax is still displayed between brackets and is missing in InDesign. Though activated in FontAgent Pro, can I update the fontmenu which has apparently fallen asleep?
Sometimes InDesign takes several seconds to do that (as I read in some books) however after more than 5 minutes ... it should be available in ID. Hmmm ...

Re: Font menu ... building
Occasionally, ID does this with Suitcase. The answer is to open a font in Suitcase and go back to ID. It seems to 'wake up' the fonts.
As for FAP...Buko!!!

Re: Font menu ... building
Sorry, Buko, but that sounds like it might be a FAP problem.
I have hundreds of fonts open on my two computers (not using FAP or Suitcase, just Font Book!) and have never seen the "[font name]...building" message. Nor has InDesign ever not previewed the font. I leave font preview on all the time.
Mac OS X 10.4.7 on iMac G5 and PowerBook G4.

Re: Font menu ... building
I say its a corrupt font.
I've run into a couple of free fonts not being activated by FAP I just used Font Book or if that did not work I just dropped the font in IDs font folder.
BTW FAP is at version 3.2 I suggest you update.

Re: Font menu ... building
I have occasionally seen this with Suitcase. My sense is that InDesign really thinks the font is missing. I'm not sure why it indicates that the preview is "building."
Another thing to try after activating the font and returning to InDesign is to execute the "Rebuild missing font list" function. This is one of those that I think is accessible only through a keyboard shortcut, nowhere else in the UI. By default, it's Shift-Command-Option-/
