Default Font Problem - Text is Bold on some pages, but regular on others, even when set in the same Style

    Hi -

I'm fairly new to InDesign and I have this technical difficulty I just cannot figure out myself:

In a 30 pg book, I use the same font style/text for all of my text (arial 10, regular with 11 pnt spacing). The book also has graphics on each page along with the text. I've noticed that the text on some pages will be "bolder" than the others (when the text style does not change to bold, it still dictates "regular").

Any clues or hints as to why this could be happening? Any response would be helpful. Thank you.

This may be a result of using transparency - such as a drop shadow - on your
graphics. Nearby text can appear bold. If this is the case, put the text on
a separate layer above the graphics.

Is the text bolder on screen? or in print? or both? Also, is the whole page bolder uniformly from one page to the next, or is it incosistent from word to word or paragraph to paragraph? (alternatively, is the boldness changing a whole page at a time, or are there bold and normal sections on the same page)

If it is happening on screen, but not in print, have you tried exporting a PDF and seeing if it is still bolded? I might suggest that your copy of Arial is corrupt, but that doesn't happen too often with a system font. Are you viewing the document in high quality display mode?

If it happens in print, what are you printing on?

Sometimes these things are a bit squirrely, keep trying..
