Fonts message
run win xp and AI 9. sometimes, when i save a doc, it comes out with a message saying :
1) "unable to embed font" - protected fonts cannot be embedded (i have uninstalled it, made sure it was not protected, then install it back, but the message prevails)
2) "an unknown problem occurred"
thanks !

Re: Fonts message
hey .. anyone notice that whenever you start a line with an 'i' in this forum, it removes that 'i' and replaces the whole line with italics ?

Re: Fonts message
You can use HTML tags like < b> < u> < i> < a href=""> in the forum to format text, links, etc. You can even make a line really long and break the place. :)
Sorry, I can't answer your original question.

Re: Fonts message
Do fonts with a licensing restriction generally allow you to buy a version that will let you embed them?
I have that issue now with palantino, prob will have it with others in the future.

Re: Fonts message
Lim,
For those fonts limited by licensing you can always convert that text to outlines, and although it would not be editable, it would have the same look as you designed it. AND, to be sure you can do the text editing, if you make a dual text layer; one with your font and text as text and one with text converted to outlines and then turn off the text as text layer until you need to edit. That'll work well also (and best way to do it). No need for additional licensing or time hunting to see if one is available.

Re: Fonts message
Bob,
I'm not Lim - I'm RLS...
I am using my template on line. People use an HTML form to enter the text they want to see, then I generate a preview online. If they like the outline, they order that item and it is sent to the printer who imports it into Quark and prints it professionally. Palatino needs to be true all the way through.
Does what you say fit this scenario?

Re: Fonts message
Sorry, Randy, I missed the name
Are you giving them an SVG/FLASH or raster image to view? In any case, converting to outlines would seem to work excellently for you in any of these cases. You'd keep the original native format for your editing needs and in that case you'd keep the two text layers I outlined in previous reply.

Re: Fonts message
The internet form is basic HTML. It uses FDF to generate a PDF which is then displayed to them as a preview.
Not sure what you really mean by converting to outlines, and the forum is hiding your message to Lim on that (I'm "afraid" to hit Show All Messages right now - don't want to lose this message) so I'll go back and read that when I finish sending this.
Thank you,

Re: Fonts message
thanks, i've always kept an editable text layer, just that this 'protected' fonts prompt are annoying. :)

Randy: When I'm in that situation, I open another browser window so I don't have to worry about losing my text....
