I began using InDesign about a year ago and have been gradually moving
away from FrameMaker. However, there's one feature in FM (aside from
obvious things like cross-references) that doesn't work quite the same
in ID -- what FM calls a "forced return" and ID calls a "forced line
ending." This command was extremely useful to me in FM, because it
prevented the introduction of leading between two paragraphs within a
frame that used vertical justification. (In other words, I was willing
to allow extra leading between other paragraphs on a page but not
between those two particular paragraphs.)

When I do a "forced line ending" in ID (CS), the last line of the
paragraph is right-justified, no matter how short it is, and thanks to
ID's justification system, the rest of the paragraph then has very
wide word-spacing. Is there any way I can prevent this from happening?
I just want ID to behave more or less like FM: when I use a forced
line ending at the end of a paragraph, I expect that last line to be
justified flush-left, not shifted all the way to the right margin.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
