Forms: What can I do with which product?
Good Afternoon Acrobat experts,
I think I understand but would like confirmation on the following:
I need Acrobat professional to create a fill-in-able form.
If a user wants to fill in the form and save it, the user needs Acrobat Standard.
If a user just wants to fill in the form and print it but not save it, then that can be done with Acrobat Reader.
Is this correct?
Thank you!
Allyson

Yes, or Acrobat 5 of course.
If a user wants to fill in the form and save it, the user needs Acrobat
Standard.
Yes, any full version of Acrobat (providing you have made the PDF backward compatible) or Acrobat Approval will do the trick.
If a user just wants to fill in the form and print it but not save it,
then that can be done with Acrobat Reader
Yes

Re: Forms: What can I do with which product?
Can you fill in a form and hit the email button using only Reader? Or do you have to have Standard or Professional version? I only get the PDF form emailed, without any of the form data.

Re: Forms: What can I do with which product?
I have Acrobat Pro 6.0. I've created a form, but when I open it in adobe reader 6.0, fill out the form and save it, it only saves a copy of a blank form. What I want to do is save my information with the form so that I can come back to it and fill out the rest of the form. How do I go about doing this? Do I need to do something in Acrobat Pro 6.0 when I create the form?

Reader cannot save filled in forms unless the PDF has been enabled with Adobe Reader Extensions Server: <http://www.adobe.com/products/server/readerextensions/main.html>

Re: Forms: What can I do with which product?
Okay -- this can be achieved, but not by using the 'mailto' method in Acrobat. What you'll need to do is set the form to submit to a web script. Clicking the Submit button in the PDF will then submit the form data to the script.
Once the script has received the data, it can do what it likes with it. So if you want to e-mail a completed form to someone, you could fill a copy of the form (stored on the server) with the data submitted by the user, and then e-mail it programmatically.
I've got a demo setup that does this -- if you would like to see it in action shoot me an e-mail at chris.dahl@artspdf.com.
- Chris.
