FP Won't Install on Firefox - Macromedia Flash Player

I am running Vista32. I have both Firefox and IE7 on my computer. I have successfully installed Flash Player on IE7, but I cannot do it on Firefox. When I click on the Install icon, it says I must first close Firefox and Compuserve. I can close Firefox easily, but I have nothing on my computer named Compuserve, and I cannot delete that request. How can I get around this?...

If it claims that there is a program called compuserve running on your computer
odds are, it's going to be in the process list in task manager. So ctrl+alt+del
and search for the compuserve.exe process. If it's does not exist. Try
downloading the adobe flash player plugin from adobe. Then disconnect, close
everything to do with the internet and install. It should work, if it still
does not work try manually copying the flash files into the C:\Windows
    directory.

Yeah, I don't know what version you are using but the newest version of
Firefox (v2.0.0.12) seems to be slightly buggy with the flash player and its
cache capability. Hope they fix this soon.

Thanks, SzK1 -- but it didn't work. None of the task manager options reveals
anything called Compuserve. No Search finds Compuserve. I uninstalled Adobe
Flash Player, and then I uninstalled Firefox. The new Firefox, same as the
old, is v. 2.0.0.12. Then I downloaded the Adobe Flash Player installer, and
closed all programs. Same result in Firefox -- can't go forward until I close
Compuserve. I also downloaded the Flash Player for Internet Explorer, and
installation could not be easier. So this is clearly a Firefox problem.

Incidentally, I went to C:\Windows\System32\Macromedia\Flash. The Properties
for FlashUtil9e are set to give Full Control to Everyone, also the file
Flash9e.ocx. I double clicked on the FlashUtil9e file and got a popup that
said an update is available for Adobe Flashplayer. So I downloaded that,
restarted the system, but there was no change. I can't install Adobe
Flashplayer on Firefox until I close Compuserve! Any other thoughts will be
    very welcome.
