    Default Fractions.

We have a client that has fractions setup in his Indesign CS document. When the document is opened on another machine all the numbers in the document whether thay are fractions or not have shrunk in size as if they are the top number in the fraction.

    Please help.

    Default Re: Fractions.

I would check to make sure that the fraction feature hasn't been applied globally to the text. It should only be applied to the figures that make up the fraction itself. I can't think why this would not create a problem on the client's machine, though.

Is the font in question Myriad Pro?

Does the machine where the fractions have "shrunk" have the version of Myriad Pro that came with CS2? If so, there's the reason for the difference. CS's Myriad Pro does not support arbitrary fractions; CS2's version does.

Other OpenType fonts might have made the same transition, but I only know of this being true for Myriad Pro.

Does that explain why every CS document that I open with CS2 shifts the Myriad fonts numbers to fractions??

It does if you have switched on OTF Fractions for all the text.

Is there an echo in here?

Note that if you installed CS2 on the same machine, that the same thing will happen even if you open those documents in CS -- this is one of the BIG GOTCHA's with working in a mixed CS/CS2 environment that most people don't have a clue about.

To reiterate the original point: fractions formatting should only be applied to fractions. Applying it globally, with some fonts, will cause the behavior you describe. This is why Adobe's OpenType User Guide says "don't do that."
