Default Frames and Drop down menus

Is there a way to allow a drop down menu created with DHTML to overlap into
another frame? I have set up my DHTML navigation in a frame across the top so
when users select an option, it shows up in the main frame. The only problem
is that I have to adjust the size of the navigation frame to view the full drop
down.

No, because frames are a separate document.

Are you using the FireWorks menus?
Is your site so dependant upon FramesSets that a re-write is out of the
question?

If the answer to both questions is YES, I may be able to help... (I'm sure
I've told this story recently?)... long ago we had a Frameset site and we spent
ages getting FW menus to work so that the triggers for the dropdowns were in
one frame but the actual dropdowns appeared in another (not quite the
overlapping into another frame that you asked for - so VVebbie's anwser is
correct) does this sound of any use to you?

ps we have since stopped using frames, they turned out to be more trouble than
they were worth

And moving the menus into another frame is (in my opinion) a foolish waste
of time. If the frame containing the submenus is scrolled, then the
submenus vanish under the other frame UNLESS you make them persistent. It's
one dreary workaround after another. And when you finish, you still have a
slug.

Spend the time doing something that works the first time! 8)

Murray is right, see http://apptools.com/rants/framesevil.php to see some of
the other hurdles you may need to overcome.
We managed to overcome some of them like this:

Search Engines - a special .asp page to generate links for the search engines,
not pretty! our site appeared as
http://previouscompanydomain/asp/Frames_Set.asp?go2=about%20us etc

Bookmarking - custom JavaScript to set a favorite in the same form as the URL
above.

PopMenus - customised FW menus to display dropdown in main frame

Scroll bars, popup menus scrolling away - used a scrollable DIV in the main
(non-scrolling) frame.

As you can see, there is a lot of work (and no doubt there are more problems
on the horizon) and we dropped the frameset idea after the 1st release (when
the pressure was off).
I would never have started down that path (frames) if I had known how much
effort it would take.

Thanks for everyone's input. I have changed the design to get rid of the
frames. I am glad I was just starting the website when I realized the frames
were going to be a problem. I have realized that due to the need in my
organzization for all screen resolutions to be set to 1024 X 768 I can use
<div> tags to get the desired results. Once again, thanks to everyone.
