Default Frameset Preview in Browsers Impossible, floating menus, search function

Hi All,

I posted a query over the weekend that Murray was good enough to reply to, but
I haven't been able to make replies for some reason.

BTW, should anyone want to email me directly my email is
Peter@LivingLoans.com.au.

Therefore to expedite it I have included the problem plus my code below.

1. I would rather not build a frames site but the fact that the site is
heavily content driven requires it for navigation reasons.

Everything was fine untile I renamed the frameset by resaving. After that it
would not preview in any browser. After deleting from the Site Management Panel
and the HD 3 - 4 times I at least got the frames displaying in IE6 with error
messages (see below). Still nothing at all in FF or NS7.

Other frames sites I have built preview OK and single pages in the poroposed
site are fine too. Any suggestions?

2. I am sure one suggestion will be to give up building in frames, which I am
considering for other reasons. If so, I was going to build a CSS. As I said,
there will be a LOT of content, so I was thinking on NOT having pop out menus,
but could somebody please give the code to build a menu that floats in the
centre of the screen regardless of page scrolling please? Iwas just going to
place some gif buttons or text in a table for speed of loading, unless someone
has a better idea.

3. Finally, I wish to add a search function on the menu bar for users to
search my site and can't find the Atomz extnsion anywhere; does someone have a
suugestion?

Regards,

Peter

The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be
experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser
settings.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please try the following:

Click the Refresh button, or try again later.

If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make sure that it is spelled
correctly.

To check your connection settings, click the Tools menu, and then click
Internet Options. On the Connections tab, click Settings. The settings should
match those provided by your local area network (LAN) administrator or Internet
service provider (ISP).
See if your Internet connection settings are being detected. You can set
Microsoft Windows to examine your network and automatically discover network
connection settings (if your network administrator has enabled this setting).
Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options.
On the Connections tab, click LAN Settings.
Select Automatically detect settings, and then click OK.
Some sites require 128-bit connection security. Click the Help menu and then
click About Internet Explorer to determine what strength security you have
installed.
If you are trying to reach a secure site, make sure your Security settings can
support it. Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the
Advanced tab, scroll to the Security section and check settings for SSL 2.0,
SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, PCT 1.0.
Click the Back button to try another link.

Sorry - this doesn't make any sense to me. Frames are usually never the
right layout decision.
> but could somebody please give the code to build a menu that floats in the
> centre of the screen regardless of page scrolling please?
I did that in the previous post, no? But I also mentioned what a bad idea I
thought it was since the 'floating' effect is dependent on browser/platform
in a way that can make it distracting fast on some systems, and stutteringly
slow on others. In my opinion a much better solution is to have the menu
links at the top and the bottom of the page, and have liberal use of "back
to top" links in your content.

Your frame problem is most likely caused by having used root relative links
in the frame sourcing -

<frame name="topFrame" scrolling="NO" noresize src="/top_frame.htm" >

Open the frameset page, and select each individual frame by clicking on its
diagrammatic representation in the frameset's property inspector. Remake
the link to that frame ensuring that you have chosen Relative to Document
rather than Relative to Root when you do so.
