Sendmail is already installed, though I' ve heard talk of needing to use the
an enabler to make use of it? Not tried myself, but have a search for
    "Sendmail Enabler".

    Cheers,

Web Crossing ... it's primarily a message-board server. But it
contains built-in POP3, IMAP, and SMTP functions. To actually use it
as a message board, you would really need the paid version, but the
free version (called Web Crossing Express) works fine as POP3 and SMTP
server. (And HTTP, HTTPS, FTP.) At least on a small scale (that's all
I've tried). Find links at <http://www.versiontracker.com/macosx/>
