Freehand Crashes Constantly!!!

My Freehand 10 is always crashing. I work on a 1.90GHz PC (Windows 2000) with over a gig of RAM, and I have plenty of free space on the local hard drive!!! Yet I constantly get errors in Freehand about memory problems!?!?!? When it crashes, it usually hoses my entire system. Right after the "Cannot Redraw Image, low on memory" error message pops up, I hit OK and try to save. Every once in a while it will let me save and quit out of Freehand, but most of the time my screen immediately goes haywire and flickers from gray to white while desktop icons and tool bars flash all over the screen!!! Most of the time I can't even use the task manager to quit Freehand and I have to force quit from the tower. It's MADDENING!!!!!

I don't understand this, I rarely even run Freehand with other programs open, and I can't atttribute the problem to specific files. There doesn't seem to be a common denominator. It occurs with files that use a master page and files that don't. It happens with files that have placed images (high-res TIFFS) as well as files that are strictly vector drawings that were 100% generated in Freehand. I understand that Freehand has a cap of 32,000 points, but none of my graphics come close to exceeding that...

HELP before I throw this computer out the window and right off Macromedia forever!!! I've already installed the FH10 patch, and it didn't help. This program is SO UNSTABLE that I'm scared to even consider the upgrade to Freehand MX.

Does anyone else have similar complaints or problems, or any suggestions?

I know how u feel, I also have enough ram and hard drive space, windows 2000.

whenever i use the program BANG there it goes, complete crash and comp restarts. Lets hope someone has the answer. maybe its just on the PC. I wish I still had my mac.

MX isn't an answer to every problem, but it is more stable. For FH10, ~some~
stability problems had to do with video drivers. Try updating (or going back
to older versions) your video drivers, and/or turning down the video
hardware acceleration.

Rumour has it there are just as many bugs & issues on the Mac.
