Default Freehand is dead... long live Freehand!

From www.creativepro.com:

"Major new versions of the industry-leading Macromedia Dreamweaver, Flash,
and Fireworks tools will continue to move the digital world from inaction to
interactive experiences...."

I think that pretty much says it all... They could have said, "Oh, and by
the way, they threw in the old, buggy copy of Freehand MX, too, just in case
you are enjoying the new software too much."

http://www.creativepro.com/story/feature/20030.html

All this, plus no--that's none, to you and me--responses or addresses in
these forums for several weeks now on the known issues of Freehand MX, even
though the petition now has 150 names...

Macromedia doesn't give a crap. I don't care what anyone says there at
Macromedia: they've proven it. They don't care anymore... just look at the
new software's goals: "interactive experiences."

Now, we all know that print isn't a very "interactive" media...

What does all this mean?

That means for all practical purposes: Freehand is dead.

Not bad, but it lacks some features which I consider to be essential
for the kind of work I do, such as text styles and multiple pages.

When it comes to opening in an editable fashion all sorts of
weird-assed EPS, PS, and PDF files, it's head and shoulders above the
capabilities of FH.

I've recently used it for a couple of real-world jobs, and am hoping
for great things from Illustrator 11.

However, I do miss using Freehand, though until they release a bug-fix
for MX I'm not shelling out money for the upgrade, especially for
something which should have been a free bug-fix for FH 10.

one more thing: the title of this thread just cracks me up. the ambivalence about FH over and over again.

Or for those that would like to stay with the FreeHand product there will be a free upgrade to the new version... Please stay tuned for more information in the coming weeks.

John:

I guess it's beating a dead horse, and I know these decisions are not
yours, but many of us original FH10 buyers thought that the MX version
should also be a free upgrade to us. It was a crappy product, and it
was never fixed.

'Nuff said on the issue, because I know it's not going to happen.
