Default Freehand MX - out of memopry and / or freezing upon import of complex vect

OS X 10.2.6, Freehand MX, Dual 1.25, 1.75 GB ram

Hi there for some reason when i import a complex vector into freehand, I receive errors stating I am out of memory. Now I should have more than enough memory (at 1.75 gb) to complete this. I had read on the internet about doing a "show package contents" and adjusting the ram used by freeehand.... I did this, and now freehand just locks up upon import of this file!

Oh I hope someone has an answer... on a dealine here. Unless anyone knows of another way to convert illustrator files to freehand 8 format! ha! ;-)

There's a known bug in FHMX, acknowledged by Macromedia. When you try to
move a very complex groups of vectors it may take 15 minutes or more to make
the move. This makes it impossible to work in FHMX with such files.

If you have a previous version of FreeHand to work with, try that.

There's a 30-day demo of FreeHand 8 on the Macromedia web site. It's
intended to let FH users batch convert legacy files, but it may get you out
of a jam on this job if you have no other software to get the job done.
FreeHand 8 will import Illustrator files 1 through 7.0.

Maybe if you phone customer support you can sweet-talk someone into letting
you have an updated version of FHMX to work on this project.

hmmm I just thought of something after.. .well I am on OS X only - I can;t even load classic if I wanted to on this machine - so downloading freehand 8 asn suggested will not work.

So am I essentially just f'd?

All Macs can install Classic. You may be confusing the 2003 models not
being able to Boot into OS 9. So you can't run OS 9 as your native OS
but you can run it as Classic on any Mac.
