Yeah I know what you mean!
I get some crazy results when I import Freehand files into both Fireworks and Flash.
Hopefully MM are going to release a patch which will sort out these issues - see the resent thread about the petition - you should sign it too

hmmm....
you said you are saving the file out of freehand? what happens if you cut the rectangle with the 1 pixel stroke in freehand and paste it into your fireworks document?
I'm guessing that fireworks is anti-aliasing your rectangle's stroke which would explain the grayish look to it.
I'd check around for import preferences or fireworks document preferences and turn of anti-aliasing...
