Default FTP Transfer hangs and does not compete the file - or permitmultiple file downloads

I seem to have found an OS X problem. I use Fetch and Transmit for FTP of
server log files. But since switching to OS X the file transfers seem to
hang and not complete. This prevents me from downloading a month of files
    on schedule.

It works fine from my Windows box.

Any idea what is going on???

    Dear Terry,

Are you using Fetch and Transmit under Classic, or OS X versions of Fetch
and Transmit? In either event what you're observing is unusual. Could
you post some more details about how your OS X Mac is networked, the system
    version, etc.

I'm no expert, but it looks like it could be an active/passive FTP and
firewall issue. Are you running the firewall in OS X? If so, do you have
FTP set to passive mode (System Preferences|Network|Proxies tab)? I know
my ISP requires active FTP for me to upload to my web site; otherwise
FTP uploads just seem to hang. So, I turn off the firewall and turn off
    passive FTP to upload.
