full-page design view disappears with a template
After creating a normal HTML page with DW-MX, I create a DWT file (to use as a footer with the original html page). I add the DWT to the page - the code view shows the entire code (HTML and new template) and I can F12 to see the browser view indicating the original page with the template content added correctly, however the DW design view only shows the template encased in a light yellow box with an yellow ID tag in the upper right corner. (The cursor is a circle with a line through it.) What do I do to view the design view of the original HTML AND the template to enable me to add more content to the original HTML page, while in design view? It's as if I'm locked out of seeing the design view of the original page before I added the template. Thank you! Paula

Re: full-page design view disappears with a template
Paula:
The "huh" indicated that your question made no sense to me.
You say this -
as a footer with the original html page)> After creating a normal HTML page with DW-MX, I create a DWT file (to use
and it sounds to me like you are putting the DWT file into the 'normal HTML
page' - but that is not how templates work.
Then you say -
which further reinforces my opinion that you are somehow pasting the DWT's> I add the DWT to the page
code into the HTML page. But I don't understand a) whether you are doing
this, and if so b) why you are doing this, and finally c) how you are doing
this. So -
HUH?
What are you doing, and why are you doing it this way? What gave you the
impression you could use templates this way?
Here's how you use templates - you create a page, and you save it as a
Template. You spawn child pages from the Template, and make edits to the
Editable Regions before saving the child pages. That's it. It's clearly
explained in the F1 Help, no?

Re: full-page design view disappears with a template
Hi Paula, I think I understand the problem you explain and BTW: you've clearly indicated that you know how to make and use a template. The problem you're experiencing is not caused by your methodology, it's "more than probably" in your programme load. I'm away from my classroom at the moment, so I'm not able to tell you the smerched noames of the proggy(s) but trust me when I say one or more is smerched (I've seen it in several loads. The easiest fix is to save your data (two backups to be safe), then uninstall the DW programme set COMPLETELY, hard boot, check the HD to be sure it's wiped, check the registry to make sure it's cleaned, then reload and hard boot. My partner just walked into the restaurant and she confirms having encountered this glitch at least four times and each time, this technique achieved the fix. Let me know if you need more help.

Shirley:
Please then explain to me. How/why is she putting a template into a plain
HTML page? Does she mean a Library Item?
And smerched? I really have no idea what you or your partner are talking
about. Really.

Re: full-page design view disappears with a template
Hi Shirley, thank you (and your partner) for the encouragement, direction and the repair! It worked! It worked! I ran the CRC's you provided and they all checked out after the reinstall. I saved the RAID drive with the old program set and found several files with incorrect checks.
Murray: NO dear, I was not asking about the use of a library - my question was about templates. The term "smerched" that Shirley used has a basis in military terminology which has grown to mean "wrecked", "damaged" etc.. If I recall first year Russian Linguistics and history correctly (45 years ago) "smerch" loosely means "tornado". Hense the tag to "damaged programs". Shirley, correct me if I err.

Paula:
Please explain to me what your problem was. I just do not understand the
idea of putting a template into a page. I am genuinely interested in the
what, how and why of your application.
The funny thing is that I don't understand what Shirly's fix was either
<sigh>.

Re: full-page design view disappears with a template
Good afternoon Murray, I think I saved some screen shots of the problem that will exemplify the issue but they're back at my lab and I'm about to get on a train for Cleveland. I'll look them up and send them to you if desired upon my return.
Shirley and Debra's "fix" was to uninstall the Macromedia applicaton completely then reinstall from scratch ensuring a correct program load.

I'd love to see the screenshots. But can you please just describe for me
what you did to produce the problem? I have read your previous post 10
times, and still do not understand how you were trying to use templates.
