I'm confused. What's "OS D1-8.6"? If you mean MacOS 8.6, I was under
the impression that 8.6. won't run on a G4, only on some G3 and earlier
models. Why not paste the information from Apple Profiler?

If you are really running MacOS X, setup a SAMBA share on the Mac and
    mount it on the PC.

.. . . Martyn is obviously running a German version of Mac OS 8.6. The D
is for Deutschland. As for sharing, depends what you want, and which
    way. here's a few tips:

He's right, there was a specially patched version of 8.x (was it 8.6?)
that ran the early G4 (was it the Blue & white?).

I bought a G4 450 which came with 9.0 and somewhat on the buggy side
with a number of my existing programs (my external USB modem for
    example).

I don't know where you find the 8.x patched system tho.

The B&W was a G3. It shipped with 8.5.1 (it says here on this CD).

It seems that in all of the OS 8.6 discussion, no one has actually
answered your question. If you stay with 8.6, you must buy third-party
software, such as Dave, from Thursby. Or you can install OS X Jaguar
(or wait for Panther later this year) and use its included Samba.

Or alternatively, get something like PC-Maclan (from Miramar) for the
    Win2k PC.

....or turn on Web Sharing and enter the correct IP number of the

No. I am pretty sure it wasn't there in 8.6

I have a PowerMac with MacOS 8.6 and Web sharing in a network. I
have tested it and it works.

The control panel's Finder info window says: Apple PWS 1.1 for
Mac OS 8, and mentions version number 1.1 as released in 1997.
