Gaussian Blur on Text turns black
Hi, I'm in the process of being so frustrated, I fear my computer's life!
I'm having a problem with illustrator : I'm trying to create a blur effect on text so it looks like it's out of focus. I already did it once in black and white and it worked perfectly.
Now I want to do it to red text on a white background.
I've filled the text and there is no stroke, I then go to effect, blur, and gaussian blur - with a setting of 1.0. THe preview screen shows the text in red, faded out at the edges perfectly. But once I click "okay", the text on my screen is blurred, but in black, which is not at all what I want.
Does anybody know what I'm doing wrong?
I'm using illustrator version 9, btw, if that helps any.
PLEASE HELP! :(

Patti,
Have you tried deleting your Aiprefs file? Details in the FAQ at the top of

Patti,
It may be a long shot, but you could try reviving your AIPrefs file, see Jacob Bugge "Preserving/replacing the AIPrefs file: 1st of 3 FAQ proposals" 8/4/04 3:57am </cgi-bin/webx?14@@.3bb553e6/1>; if you do not care about your preference settings, you may just delete it.

Bert,
Not according to Len: he claims to use some batch thing and send a lot of things much later than the time stated.
So Len, was your post really the first post sent, which means that Bert is/was right about the rupture in space time, or did you batch send it after me, not reading the first post?
Len?
Bert?
Are you on this side?

Re: Gaussian Blur on Text turns black. Please help!
Jacob,
I would have downloaded all the message from all the forums I access at
about 0820 +01.00.
I would have composed my reply to that particular message (which at the time
of downloading had no replies) at 0837 +01.00, but the reply would not have
been uploaded to the server until 0915 +01.00 when all my replies were
posted.
I would not have seen your reply until I next accessed the forums (which
today was at 1658 +01.00)
I hope that makes it clear to you

Re: Gaussian Blur on Text turns black. Please help!
Len,
Certainly, but this means that it is true: no one reads the first post (at least for some non forum members because they are busy with other things before they post).
I hope Bert is on this side too, or maybe he was right after all.
By the way, do you think my 3 FAQ proposals were too silly?

Re: Gaussian Blur on Text turns black. Please help!
Jacob,
No, not 'silly' at all.
However, a FAQ needs to be short, simple, crystal clear and not offer too
many possibilities. Heaven knows, it is hard enough to get folks to even
look at the FAQ's!
