General 10d shutter speed question
We just got back from the Brickyard 400 in Indianapolis. It was my
first NASCAR race and was it great! Our seats were Row 1 right across
from Dale Jarrett's (#88) pit. I was waiting for him to pit and
actually got several shots on my Canon 10d of his spin/crash. My ears
are still ringing 2 days later!
I have a question about shutter speeds. I had the 10d set to shutter
priority (Tv) and to use a high shutter speed (1/2000) to freeze the
action on the track. Before the race, there was a fly-over of Apache
helicopters and the high shutter speed froze the blades--making the
shots look unrealistic. What shutter speed should I have used to
freeze the chopper in the shot while still blurring the blade motion?
I didn't have time to experiment at the track.
Thanks,
Dave
