Getting a table to fit the drawn text block
InDesign CS 3.0.1.
I drew a text block to the size of my page width of 8" margin to margin. I then inserted a 2 row, 4 column table. The table doesn't fit the width of the text block, so it isn't centered in the area that I originally drew.
Why is that?
Thanks!

Re: Getting a table to fit the drawn text block
Just click to the right of the table (you should see a large vertical cursor) and choose the Center command on the Paragraph or Control palette (or press Ctrl+Shift+C).

Re: Getting a table to fit the drawn text block
You question indicated you wanted the table centered, but your title indicated you wanted it fitted to the text frame.
To fit it, move over the right side of the table until you see a double-arrow, hold down the Shift key (to resize the 4 columns proportionately), and drag to the right margin of the frame.

Re: Getting a table to fit the drawn text block
I've been doing quite a few tables lately...they seem to have no trouble
extending beyond the right side of the text frame. But how do I get them to
extend beyond the LEFT side of the frame?

Re: Getting a table to fit the drawn text block
John, that is the main problem I'm having too. I can get it to extend to the right, but it never butts up to the left side of the frame.

Re: Getting a table to fit the drawn text block
I have no trouble making it start at the left edge, can't tell you how...it
just works. Some tables are wider than the frame, and extending on both
sides would be useful.

Re: Getting a table to fit the drawn text block
I thought it might be some margin setting somewhere to make it start at the exact left edge, but I've searched high and low and can't find it.
Thanks

Re: Getting a table to fit the drawn text block
Get your cursor just on the left edge (or right edge, I suppose) and hit
Ctrl-Shift-L. I think that will left-align the table.

Getting a table to fit the drawn text block
With the text tool, and the inner text selected, drag the right border of the table to fit the frame alignment. Then select with the same tool al the columns or row, and 'distribute evenly'
