Getting embedded images out of illustrator
How can I get an embedded image out of illustrator to use elsewhere. I see there is an export as tiff but a res has to be specified and not knowing the res of the embedded object I could upsample it without knowing and degrade the image. Is there a way to know the res of embedded objects, or other ways to get them out to work on them.
Thanks for any help. (I am using AI10)

Re: Getting embedded images out of illustrator
You can tell the resolution of the embedded object by selecting the object, and going to Window/Document Info/Embedded Images.

Re: Getting embedded images out of illustrator
The resolution is hidden away in the Document Info palette. Select the image. Press the Document Info Palette's flyout menu and select "Selection Only." Then select Embedded Images. The resolution is listed at the bottom of the displayed text. Understand, the resolution shown is the resolution of the image as transformed within AI.
If you export the document to TIF at the resolution shown, though, I'm still not confident that no resampling happens. And I'm sure resampling occurs if the image is rotated.
I just did this:
1. Placed and embedded an image that is 225 ppi.
2. Set Document Raster Effects resolution to 300.
3. Made a copy of the image; rotated it.
AI shows the resolution of the unrotated image as 225 and the rotated one as approximately 182.
4. Saved as PDF.
5. Opened in Acrobat 6 Pro.
In the Preflight dialog, List All Images verifies that the unrotated image is still 225 and the rotated one is still 182.
6. In Acrobat's Advanced menu selected Export All Images.
7. Opened the two image in Photoshop. The unrotated one is still 225. The rotated one is now 146.
If anyone cares to explain that, I'm all ears.
On a related note: Acrobat also seems to insist on exporting Grayscale images as RGB.
