Default Getting InDesign Files to Acrobat

I'm using what I believe an archaic way to get my InDesign files into an Acrobat file and I was hoping to see if anyone had suggestions on how to improve this system.

We get our PDFs created off-site. We create ads in-house using InDesign. Once the files come in, there are places pre-set for the advertising.

Here's the issue. To get the ads from InDesign to Acrobat, we have to save each file as an .eps. Then we open the .eps file in Photoshop and crop it, then save it as a tif. We then open each .tif and place it in the acrobat file in the appropriate spot.

Does anyone else do a similar process, and if so, do they have a better way? I know we could save them as .pdf files directly from InDesign, but it's not a matter of a few ads. In some books we could have as many as 300-500 ads. Once a year it's even over 1400. And settings start to becom a concern, as well as whether fonts are embeded once they're pasted into the second .pdf file.

Any thoughts on the subject would be appreciated.

You can place PDFs directly into InDesign and then create another PDF with the original AND the new one together. Works great!

I'll second what Leonard said. InDesign handles placed PDF files very well. I've used it many, many times.

I forgot to mention that the pdf file in question (where we're placing the ads) can be 24-300+ pages.... Can InDesign still handle that?

If you're working with hundreds of pages, your best bet is to use the InDesign book feature when putting it together. Break it into logical sections, each in an InDesign file. Combine them in a book. When you're ready to make a PDF of the entire book, you can export a PDF from the Book palette menu.

You might ask further questions on the InDesign forum. Or download a 30-day trial of InDesign and try it out.
