Getting printing and scanning to work
Hello again,
This time i'm trying to get my Printer, a HP Deskjet 710 C, and my
scanner, a Canon CanoScan FB 330 P, to work (Breezy),
I have downloaded drivers for them, but they are .tar files.
Since my first post here i have learned to install everything with
Synaptic, but this time it seems i have no choice than to install the
..tar files. I have downloaded them into my /home/marco/drivers folder.
What are the exact actions i should take now to get these drivers to
work? Thanks in advance.

Synaptic. Check and see whether the Canon scanner is covered by libsane,
or libsane-extras (I may have those names wrong) that you can download
with Synaptic.
Hope this helps,

These packages are both installed but Ubuntu doesn't seem to recognize
the scanner. The xsane scannerprogram reports that there are no devices.
I still think i have to add the drivers manually, but what are the exact
commands?

that scanner in their backends. If they have check what version it is
included in and compare that with the version available in Synaptic before
you go into a manual update mode.
I had to wait to their version 15 before mine was available and then
Ubuntu had it available about 3 months later. (It works very well.)

(should i save the files in a special folder, or doesn't that matter ?)
Is the next command: ./configure, or: ./<filename>, or: ./configure
<filename> ?
and then: make, or: make <filename>, or ?????
and then : sudo make install ????
Thanks,
Marco
