What settings are you using? Is the problem with images with transparency or
    with all images?

Try increasing the number of colors you include when saving - that will give
you smoother edges. For more complex images, I usually save as gif 128 no
dither. For text, experiment with the anti-aliasing settings for text
(strong for larger text to crisp for smaller text).

I use the max colors available, and I have even tried bluring the edges with
the blur tool before saving but the gif just discards the smooth edges i
have made. Its fine when i save it as PNG-24 or high quality jpeg but I
guess that is the problem with gifs, is that they is not enough colors on
the pallette available to make the antialiased edges. It would come out
fine if I put it on a matte of the background color of my site, but I'm
trying to avoid that. Any suggestions? by the way my settings are for the
    gif:
color reduction: selective, lossy: 0, colors: 256, dither: 100%,
tranparency: yes, matte: none, no transparency dither, interlaced: no, web
    snap: 0%
    Hope that helps
