GMac - 10mbit faster than 100mbit - Mac Networking

Hi there. We have a problem with the network speed of one of our GMac-Computers. When connected with 100mbit full or half duplex we only have about 10-30kbyte/s while transfering data. With 10mbit half duplex it goes up to 700kbyte/s. There are no collitions or errors reported. The network-card is the standard built-in one from the GMac. Any hints what could be the problem here? Thank you, Silvio Schmidt....

    Hi there.

Excuse my ignorance - what is a GMac?

Odd. a) Are you using the cable in both cases? Is it Cat5?
    b) What is the switch at the other end? Can you connect other computers
to the same port of the switch and achieve 100mbit? c) When you have
setup a 100mbit connection, what does the output of `ifconfig en0`
    on the Mac say?

what kind of switch is the mac connecting to?

what is version of the OS (pre-OSX, 10.3?) on the mac?

is the port on the switch set to auto/auto or are you forcing it to something?

if not have you tried setting the port to auto/auto, if so what are the
    results?

if you're using OSX, open up the terminal and type "ifconfig" (no
quotes) and look at what the media is set to, does it match what the
    switch is set.

basically the port on the switch should be set to auto/auto and the mac
will properly negotiate with it, don't try and force it.

Is there a switch with "smart" 10/100 mb detection involved?
The pseudo-smart auto-detection can do things like this.
Have you tried a crossover-cable directely between the two macs?

A key word was omitted here. I meant, "Are you using the same cable
in both cases? Is it Cat5?"
