Default Good news. Disney using isometric 3D with Director

Disney have a beta vesion online of an isometric 3D application using Director..
It works ("is open") only a few hours each day:.
http://vmk.disney.go.com/vmk/en_US/index?name=VMKHomePage
Isometric 3D can be the first step for "real" 3D (remember "The Sims"...).
And if this Disney project is a success I believe that ADOBE will look
Director with better eyes.

Our site (DMU) has free tutorials about isometric 3D (using Flash):
http://www.dmu.com/flashy
And the "classic" free tutorials about Director 3D:
http://www.dmu.com/3dd
If I have time I will actualize this group of tutorials soon, adding lessons
about Havok, Action Script, communication with Flash etc.

The "isometric 3D" doesn't exist !
It's about isometric view and 2D engines (such as
http://necromanthus.com/Games/Flash/diablo.html engine).
This is a method to emulate a 3D world in a 2D environment (the "camera" angle
is set to 30-45 degrees)
Flash is a 2D vectorial environment, and for this reason is suitable for the
isometric view.
But using SW3D (a real 3D environment) to emulate a 3D world it's more than a
waste of resources ...
cheers

The Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) explores the use of Shockwave 3D
to create isometric and even plain 2D games. The advantage ? Hardware
Acceleration of display !!!

So does Apple with Quartz in MacOS X Panther 10.3 and Quartz Extreme in MacOS
X Tiger 10.4

Karl, that's a (common) flash game and it's about FlashAsset.x32 (if ShockWave
is used as environment).
In other words: no acceleration at all !
If he's looking to promote Director MX2004, that's fine with me.
But his game (and this topic) has nothing to do with Director 3D
cheers

i've no inclination to argue the finer points... i think the thing is cool! i
saw the advert earlier from sc00by9999 looking for folks to work on a disney
project. is this it? i'm a disney freak. wish i had the skills/time to have
applied. it's good to see director used in a site of a high profile company
like disney.
