grabbing images from Web sites - Adobe Photoshop 7, CS, CS2 & CS3

This is somewhat OT, but hopefully you'll indulge me, as someone here must know about this. If I want to grab an image, that I can see on a Web page, I either point at the image and click the little floppy disk button or right-click and select Save Picture As. OK so far. Then I have a Save dialog box, which gives me the default filename of "untitled" and a file type of BMP. I can then save just fine. But this isn't right. But this isn't right. This happens with a JPEG or a GIF [so I suppose IE converts]; I can check its full URL using right-click and Properties. It should offer me the original file type and its base filename.

Any ideas? Have I set some option somewhere?

    This is most frustrating.

    I am using IE6 on Win2000.

Colin, try emptying your temporary internet files and then try the right-click "save file as" again. (In IE go to Tools > Internet Options and the option to delete temp files is there in the middle) You should then get the right file type. I've had bmp option turn up when my temp imternet files have been full.

    Brilliant!

Thanks Helen for the fast response. That worked a treat.

Stupid though, isn't it? I can't see any logic in it. I guess it's like deleting PS prefs - good things tend to result ...

Yep- it's good practice to empty your temp internet files every now and then to keep things running nicely. I do mine as part of my normal maintenance routine (delete all temp files, defrag etc).

Glad we sorted it for you :)

Will Corel's Painter 8 add any significant new capability to Photoshop 7?
