Gradient Printing Issue - Macromedia Freehand

Hi all, I'm printing a logo containing a radial gradient, wherein when printing to a non-postscript printer I see a discoloured 'halo' type effect on the background. The center point of the gradient falls outside the composite path that contains it, and looking at the print it looks very much as if Freehand is somehow 'reading' the rest of the gradient 'outside' the path. Default Gradient Printing Issue

    Hi all,

I'm printing a logo containing a radial gradient, wherein when printing to a
non-postscript printer I see a discoloured 'halo' type effect on the
background. The center point of the gradient falls outside the composite
path that contains it, and looking at the print it looks very much as if
Freehand is somehow 'reading' the rest of the gradient 'outside' the path.
I've looked at technotes, and seen the one about halo effects connected to
rgb fills and bitmaps. I've checked and this is not the issue here -
everything is CMYK, including all swatches used in the gradient (checked by
    xtras/colors/name all colors).
As this is being used for short-run in-house purposes, a postscript printer
    is not an option.
    Any ideas?

    Regards,
    Mr D.

What version of FH are you using? Platform and OS? What printer?

Are you sure that CMYK is the best color space for the projects? Many
non-Postscript composite printers require RGB input, which is converted by
the print driver or printer to the printer's proprietary inks. What kind of
input does the printer manufacturer recommend?

It sounds to me like there may be an unwanted CMYK to RGB to printer ink
conversion going on here. This often happens with the new FHMX raster
effects, but I don't think it should be happening with a gradient fill,
unless there's another raster effect attached to the same object.

When FH prints to a non-Postscript printer, it sends a rasterized RGB image
of the page to the printer. I might be wrong, but I don't think it ever
sends a rasterized CMYK image. What are your color management settings? Does
this halo occur if you set the color management to 'None' before printing?
