Try setting the "Printer Resolution" on the Document Inspector to 2540
    and then produce the PDF.

    > I have been searching for this problem in the forums and such, but I haven't found anyone listing my exact issue. When using a gradient fill in Freehand 8, I get white or transparent lines in the gradient when it is printed. I don't get the lines, however, until I print to a postscript file and distill it into a PDF and it is printed by a commercial printer. It has happened at two different print shops. So, basically, I can never be sure if my gradient is going to look right or if it will have gaps in it. The gaps are very small, but none the less, not attractive. And, just to be sure we are all talking about the same thing, I am NOT talking about my gradient not being smooth, that part is fine, I am talking about there being actual small gaps all the way across the gradient. I would appreciate any help that anyone can give me. Thanks!

    Rich,

Just wanted to check...but on your suggestion to the gradient issue...have you acutally had that problem and has it been solved by changing the printer resolution in the Document Inspector before making the PDF? I am just asking, because I have no way of knowing if the problem is fixed until I go to a commercial printer. I can't seem to get the effect to happen on a desktop printer and I can't see the gaps in the gradient on screen either. So, I am looking to try the best fix because when I do it, it will be for real, the thing will be going to press. :) Thanks for your help!

I never did have the problem with going to film but I would get the
white lines when going to PDF or copying/pasting into Photoshop. The
printer resolution helped in those situations. If you ever export out
to an Illustrator document with gradients it is essential to increase
the printer resolution. If you dont then the gradients come in very
chunky, no lines, just chunky. This is because the Illustrator export
doesn't keep the gradient "live" but breaks it up into distinct color
shapes. At the default 300 dpi the shapes are very large and noticeable.
