graphics from photoshop to illustrator

I have erased a background from a pic in photoshop 5.5 and when I put it into illustrator CS on a square coloured background all looks fine on screen but when printed I get the bounding box outline around my picture. the outline is a shade lighter than the background color.

So, you placed it in Illy CS?

What method did you use to extract your foreground in Photoshop? Are you sure the background is 0% opacity?

How about selecting the transparent area in PS, make it your work path, export paths to Illy and use it as a clipping mask.

I presumed the background was erased because the grey and white checks were there. Yes illy CS. If I copy the file to Corel draw and print it all is OK. I have achieved this in illy 100 times before and all of a sudden this bounding box is printed. Thanks for your help.

I went back to ps and selected background eraser. Erased away and when I moved my eraser over erased areas the colour in the navigation panel was showing nothing. Moved the image into illy and printed. The bit that prints is the box shape that you see in ps while working on the image.

What are you printing to? Try and turn off the printer's color management if it's on. You may be experiencing stitching where the printer prints the same raster color and vector color differently.
