Grayed out Legacy text
I'm sure this has been asked before but the forum search seems to be kinda down.
I keep reading about how CS is supposed to put a grayed out, locked layer image of your original legacy text when you open old files in CS but it hasn't happened to me yet. So unless something is VERY off, i don't know if my text is kerning properly... Where is this thing supposed to turn on? i can't seem to find it (and me being a dumbass, i havn't bothered to tear open the shrink wrap on that book that came with the CD....)

Re: Grayed out Legacy text
p1kuo,
This only happens when you choose not to Convert the file upon opening. If you do convert the file you will be able to edit the text but upon saving without updating the file to CS, the text will be turned into a series of either point text or line text. See the discussion above New Text Engine.

Re: Grayed out Legacy text
I did read the thread about the new text enging.. and
I thought that if i chose not to convert, the text becomes like a placed image (which i can then convert to outlines or whatever)
but if I choose to update the text, there is supposed to be a locked gray layer below the text to show if the kerning has been changed or not...? (so that if it has been changed, i can shift it back to the way it used to be and then delete that locked layer....
is this not right?

Re: Grayed out Legacy text
The only way to have a Greyed Copy of the text as a reference is to
DONąT convert the text when opening, but MANUALLY convert each text
frame withthe Type Tools...
