Graying a line?
Ok, probably one of the dumber questions on the forum:
How do I create a line in gray (or color, for that matter)?
No matter what I do, the line stays black. I can create gray boxes, frames, etc. But every line I make is black, black, black.
Yes, I'm new to InDesign. Yes, I used to use Publisher and old, old versions of Pagemaker years ago.
What's the trick?
Thanks for any help.

Re: Graying a line?
Make sure you have the stroke selected in the toolbox and then pick a color.

Re: Graying a line?
Thanks for the reply.
Well, that's what I expected. But still, all I get is black. Here's what I did:
Clicked on line tool.
Set stroke, 4pt
Set color, 35% (or any other % of black)
Draw line - and it's black.
In fact, now when I select rectangle and frame, those lines are black too.
I know there's something I'm missing a "Duh!" here but...

Re: Graying a line?
On the tool box or in the swatches palette there are a couple of overlapping rectangles. The fill one represents the fill; the unfilled one the stroke. If you want to apply a color to a stroke, make sure that the stroke rectangle is at the front.

Re: Graying a line?
OK! I think I've got it. Have to do some experimenting with the rectangles, but I finally (!) produced a gray line. I knew I was stuck in a Homer Simpson moment.
Thanks,
