Grayscale TIFFS are rendered different that Pagemaker. . . - Adobe Indesign Windows

Grayscale tiffs we have used in Pagemaker, are rendered darker, and considerably more contrasty in ID - converted the pub first, found this, then deleted and placed one of the tiffs and got the same result. Why?? L W...

Sounds like a color management issue.

Robert, we work in the first 10% of PM and ID possibilities (and abilities too...), have not changed anything about color in either one... PM file is what we use twice monthly on pub, and I'm trying to learn enough about ID to switch over so I can buy a new computer, which probably won't run PM... and this is gonna cause me a lot of work to go thru all the grayscale tiffs in pub... b&w bytheway, no color at all. Any ideas? First page had 10 tiffs, and only 4 or 5 were noticeable, 2 were very noticeable, to point of objectionable.

IIRC, PM had the capability to actually half tone grayscale graphics.
Perhaps that's the difference you're seeing.

Should have made it clear, these are portraits, and photos of motorcoaches. . .

    Hi Lamar,

InDesign supports ICC profiles in greyscale images and PageMaker does not; that might your problem. Also, Quark (and perhaps Pagemaker) had the ability to apply non-destructive curves and halftoning to some images; ID does not.

To test, create a brand-new PM doent, import a TIFF, and print it without making any adjustments to it. Then compare that to the ID version.
