I probably wouldn't by a digital camera but might buy lenses or converters
and that type of thing from one of the more reputable folks online.

B and H seems to be very up front about grey market items and their
warranties. I would trust them, but I'd be careful with anyone else.

Agree with this since you won't get the US manufacturer to fix anything Grey
    Market and
lenses (unless fell on like I did) are generally less likely to need
    servicing than camera
    bodies.

    FWIW (message to Nikon here)...

I just bought a Canon 20D (not Grey) and some f/2.8L lenses, despite the
fact that I own a Nikon CP5400 point and shoot. I think Nikon make pretty
    good cameras.

One of my main reason for lack of customer loyalty is Nikon's continued
stance on the issue of "divide and conquer" WRT marketing... There should be
no such thing as "grey market" in a world that is linked by one Internet and
    a huge fleet of jets...

And perhaps Canon have simular policies, but I've hear (on the internet) of
way more people coming to stupid grief with Nikon refusing to even look at a
camera that is grey.... won't fix it even for a price.... send it back to
    Singapore...

I decided not to give Nikon my money...

Don't know about other experiences, but that dream has
come true here - I live in Switzerland, bought a grey market F100
from B&H, had a problem with the autofocus, brought it to the
local Nikon rep, they even honored the warranty. No problems
    whatsoever.

I was curious what experience others might have had. I am considering a
Fuji S3 Pro and the price ranges from $1200 to $2500. Heck of a span.

    Grey
    need

At least for Canon, the authorized service centers will service non-U.S.
products, at least outside of warranty.
A reputable dealer like B&H will take care on in-warranty service.

I understand that Nikon will not fix non-U.S. products, even out of
    warranty.

Unlikely. The lowest price from a reputable dealer that I found, after all
rebates/credits, etc., is $2133. Not that I'm buying one. If someone is
advertising it for $1200, it's sure to be a scam.
