Default Group of objects and one clipping mask - still no fun :-(

    Hi there!

I wonder if there are any new clues or improvements about dealing with some old problem that ID still seems to have, and that is management of groups of objects inside a clipping mask (= picture frame).

Typical scenario: I paste a small image into my ID document, and by duplicating it over and over again and shifting, rotating, sqeezing etc the duplicates I step by step generate a nice sort of patchwork.

When satisfied with the look of that patchwork, I group all its elements and paste them inside a certain picture frame because I want that frame to operate as a clipping mask for my patchwork group.

That works pretty cool so far.

Problems start if you may want to move that patchwork as a whole inside its clipping mask ... You will find - when trying to use the »shifting hand« on them - that they are no longer act as a group. Selecting all of them seems to be impossible - even more if objects stay »outside« the frame.

Any new ideas or clues about how to deal with this?

    Thanks.
    Klaus

Yeah, instead of the white selection tool, click on tool palette and change to it "position tool", this moves all grouped objects within frame. Change back to white selection tool to move individual objects in the group.

Heather, that's cool. It also solves the problem of how to drag-duplicate one item in a group - outside of any frame - without going to the trouble of ungrouping them.

I have to try it. Been a million times I had a group and needed to dupe one item for another page or location.
