Default GRRRRRR -- Default value for file upload?

I created a page that allows me to update all information for a particular record in a table. However, one value stored on this page is the file name for an image.

Currently, if the user modifies the infomation on this page without changing the image, it's stored as a null value. I have attempted to set the default value to the stored variable, but it deosn't appear that this will work?

This is the code I am using:
    <input type="file" name="Band_image" value="<cfoutput>#Recordset1.Band_image#</cfoutput>" size="30">

Any ideas to remedy this situation?

I use a hidden field for this. Store the file name in a hidden field and use
it's value to populate the database. Be sure to update the hidden field's
value whenever the contents of the visible input file field is changed. You
    can do this with javascript.
