    Default guides & snap

    Hi,
This is my 1st time using FH, previously an experienced Illustrator user.

I'm having trouble with guides (dragged from the rulers) not appearing. This seems to only occur in some files mostly those imported from another vector application.

I have checked the View>Guides>Show & have changed the guides colours to a brighter hue/level, but to no avail. I've located a similar problem in a previous posting which mentioned "check that the grids layer is on top of other layers".

1: I cannot locate the 'grids layer'
2: a search in FH help under 'grid layer' results in "no topic found"

In addition, I cannot get guides (in other files where the guides are working) to snap to the corner points of a linked file.

    *I'm using PC Win2000, FH.Mx

    Any help apprec.

Open your Layers panel and make sure your Guides layer is at the top of the
    list.

    Thanx Judy,
in addition, does anyone know how to snap guides to the bounds of linked files that have been masked out?

I can find the corner points but for some reason, guides won't snap to these.

    cheers,
    m

    OK,
sussed it out... release mask and the bounds become live. A little arduous but it solves the problem.

    cheers

I had a similar problem when I upgraded to AI10, none of my guides were
showing and Adobe support didn't have a clue. I finally found out that
AI10 needs the monitor set to millions of colors, sure enough the guides
appeared. It could be a monitor setting problem, though I have never had
any problem seeing my guides in FH8 or 10
