hacmp ip takeover configuration
I am trying to configure HACMP on two nodes with ip takeover, v4.5 and
AIX 5.2. On each node, I have two NICs. I want to set up one NIC as
boot/service and the other one as stand-by, with serial port
connection between two nodes using tty0. In HACMP for AIX Planning
Guide v4.5, p.28, it says that all adapters have to be on same vLAN.
However, on p.39, it says that stand-by adapter has to be on a
separate subnet. If my case, I have set up the boot/service adapters
with ip addresses of 172.30.160.25 and 172.30.160.24 for two nodes,
respectively. The stand-by ip addresses are 172.30.160.3 and
172.30.160.4. Netmask is 255.255.255.128 for all adapter.
Based on the planning guide, this does not seem to be a right
configuration. What it should be is to give stand-by addresses of
172.30.161.x. But on the switch, 172.30.160.x and 172.30.161.x are on
different vLAN. And I can't configure the switch.
Q:
Is this OK to proceed?
If not, what shall I do?
Thanks for your advice.

behind needs to be setup with the same vlan subnet as the primary
address. In fact, for my standby adapters, they plug into a different
switch than primary adapters. Bring up the configuration and ping via
the standby adapter on your primary system to the other standby
adapter, you'll see that this works.
