Have Acrobat Pro but how far can i go?

Default Have Acrobat Pro but how far can i go?

At the company I work on we are currently putting up alot of stuff that will be done with images extracted from pdf files.

Now we have looked on so darn many of these darn 900 dollar controls and havnt even gotten the smallest bit satisfied. For a while ago I managed to find an entry were someone mentioned about adding the Adobe Acrobat 6.0 to Visual Studio and work through there.

We do have Adobe Pro 6.0 and I by that had the dll to be used. I have tried it for 3 days now and the power behind everything is just great.

We are going to use this "converter" and we might or might not sell versions of it to others but mainly have it running on a server creating images for us from pdf files (but the result will in a way be sold as well)

Now... my questions is what does the legal say about this?

Are we free to use the adobe pro 6.0 in our product?

Are we free to sell our product to other customers?

Are we free to use it in our product but only sell the result of what it does to other customers?

The .dll (adobe pro 6.0) is by far not the main part of our product but it would be a very important part in it.

Bad news: Acrobat is not licensed for server use.
    >
    >Are we free to use the adobe pro 6.0 in our product?
You are free to programmatically control a licensed version of Acrobat
Pro, that you (or someone else) has installed. This implies, though,
that Acrobat is used within the terms of its license.
    >The .dll (adobe pro 6.0) is by far not the main part of our product but it would be a very important part in it.
Acrobat Pro is a complete executable, not a DLL.

If you want a server solution, look into Adobe LiveCycle PDFGenerator.
If you want a programming solution compatible with the Plug-in API for
Acrobat, but not requiring Acrobat, look into Adobe's PDF Library.

Are we free to use acrobat in our application running on a server and sell the result that we can achive through the application? The application itself will only be used on this server where we have a licensed version of acrobat pro.

You are free to programmatically control a licensed version of Acrobat
Pro, that you (or someone else) has installed.<

So would that not be the case above?

Apparetly not, because the use of Acrobat you mention is not within
the terms of the license. Or so it seems to me.

This is why Adobe are able to sell big-ticket solutions for servers.

Is it within the terms of use to have a personal computer with acrobat installed and automated? That transfers files to the server once it's done.

We want a program that automaticly runs and checks of a folder to see if any new .pdf files shows up, if it does the program takes them in and transform them and then another program will take up the work with these new files. This have to be automatic and is there anyway to make up some "extra" deal with Adobe about this if we are not allowed to do this by the normal TOU?

We do not want to make any pdf files, all we want to do is get images from the pdf files.

What you are describing is a server process. Separating it out onto
different computers doesn't help: the key thing is whether work is
being done for more than the one person sat at the licensed computer.
But I am not a lawyer.

Whether you are making PDF files or processing them in some other way
with Acrobat is definitely not the factor.

There is no extra for Acrobat. I feel this is a good thing because it
is wildly technically unsuitable for unattended production use. It is
an interactive tool, and so it is liable to pop up messages and stop,
    just for one reason.

    PDFTRON.COM
This one was just like the ones we have already looked into. The output quality is alot worse than the one achived with Acrobat AND it takes twice as long to generate the images.

    Adobe LiveCycle PDFGenerator.
Can I read in this one into VS 2005 and affect it about in the same way as I did with the Acrobat Pro?
