Have an imported B/W photo, need to make it one color... - Adobe Illustrator Windows

I have an imported black and white photo imported into AI CS2 and need to make it a single color photo. Is it possable to do this in Illustrator or do I need to do it in PS? Thanks, Dean...

    Dean,

    You may try this:

    1. Create a rectangle, place it behind the photo, and give it the fill colour you wish instead of black,
    2. Click the right arrow in the Transparency palette,
    3. Click Make Opacity Mask.

Doh! I knew that. Brain must have been on vacation.

CS2 now has the ability to colorize a grayscale image.

Simply select the image and with the fill in focus, select the desired swatch. If the grayscale image contains transparency, you can ONLY colorize it to SPOT swatches.

If you are unable to colorize to a swatch, delete your preferences, copy and paste the image in a NEW doent and colorize there.

If it is a linked eps image, it will not colorize due to it being a hands off format.

You are welcome, Dean; but I can see John has the updated answer for CS2.
