Default Having trouble OCR-ing scanned document.

I'm having some problems trying to OCR a scanned document (pdf-scanned at 300dpi, b&w). Some of the data will convert to recognizable text, but a very large portion of it remains an image. I've tried scanning at higher resolutions, but it takes forever and the file size is astronomical; then once scanned at the higher resolution, I get an error when I try to OCR it. Please help - deadline is approaching....

Acrobats OCR capability is marginal, at best. There is no way tune the process. You may want to look at some third-party OCR program to generate more accurate results.

What sort of original is it? You can expect good OCR for an original
(not photocopied) clean laser print in a normal font with English
    text. Is it that?

The original was faxed to me - I scanned it to pdf format. So - no, it wasn't an original, clean laser print at normal font - although it is in English. The font looks like the dot matrix standard, if that tells you anything.

MarkATS, do you have any suggestions for "third-party OCR programs"?

There's not a chance with dot matrix. Time to start retyping.
