Default Headings from word document don't show

I'm working with indesign 2 and word xp. In my text document I'm using headers which I want to use in my indesign document. I've got the fonts, size and so on as I want it to be, just like my body text.

Now when I link the .doc file to my indesign document, the body text will have the correct font and leading etc., but the headings don't show up the way they should. The font and leading are changed, so I have to do this again in indesign.

Am I missing something here or is this always the case. Can I use the header information from word in my indesign document?

    thanks

For correct import you need to have the same named paragraph styles in Word
and InDesign, so ID will set the appropiate paragraph styles when it
encounters the style during the word import process. Otherwise there is no
guarantee that any local formatting will be imported correctly.

Additionally, I think the style names are case sensitive so make sure
    they match EXACTLY.

Hmm, I'm not sure I'm understanding this correctly. My titles are named 'Heading 1" in my word document. But when i make a paragraph style in indesign named the same, nothing happens.

What am i doing wrong here?

What do you mean by "nothing happens?"

What I mean is that when I format the paragraph styles accordingly to my word styles and I place the text, all of my headings are in Times New Roman. And they shouldn't be like that.

So what must I do to use the headers from a word document in indesign?

It sounds like you also have character styling applied in Word which is
    carrying over into InDesign.

You need to make sure that the heading style in ID has the exact same
name as the one in Word (note: style names are case sensitive) and that
the style has been defined in InDesign the way you want it.

If you see a + sign next to the style name when you select the text in
ID then something is overriding the paragraph style. Select the
paragraph style with the alt key held down and that will remove any
    local formatting.
