Help Adjusting Page Guides and Printable Area
I'm working on a letter head, the document is set at 8.5 x 11, the printable area is 8 x 10.5 but the there is a 1/8" border at the top and a 1/2" border at the bottom. I need to print a light screen that goes all the way to a 1/4 of an inch from the edges. I don't know how the page guide got set to those measurements. For the life of me I cannot figure out or find the answer in the Illustrator 9 user guide on how to adjust the page guide to the measurements I need. So when I print from a HP deskjet 932C, the letterhead margins are off. I found out how to move the page guide but not how to adjust it. The user guide mention making adjustments in the separation set up menu but it is graded out. It also mention page tiling in page set up menu, but I'm only printing 1 page and 1 color. Can anyone tell me how to reset the page guide for the printable area so I can have a surrounding border of a 1/4 inch?

Use the page tool to reposition the tile. you find the page tool with the hand tool at the bottom of the tool Bar.

Re: Help Adjusting Page Guides and Printable Area
Sharon,
The guide you see is being set by the information contained in the printer selection. See if you can make a Custom page with your printer. If you can, then on the Custom Page screen you should be able to set the margins you require. You may need to use a virtual printer for this to work. What OS are you using?

Re: Help Adjusting Page Guides and Printable Area
Sorry to be replying so late I've just gotten home from work.
Hi Wade: I have already tried that. I was trying to keep everything relative to the document and not to the page guide. I did not want to move the text and images because the letterhead will be taken later to a printer. I wanted to print it out on my printer for example purposes. I will take your advise into consideration.
Hi Larry: I'm using an iMac with OS 9.2.2 How would I set up a virtual printer?
Thanks for the help.

Re: Help Adjusting Page Guides and Printable Area
Sharon,
To do what I am suggesting you will need Acrobat 5.0.5. If you download AdobePS8.8 for the Adobe site and install it, it will create a Virtual Printer for you on your Desktop. This will allow you to print a PS file which you can Distill in Acrobat. With the Virtual Printer you can set the margins of the page to anything you like, even 0.

Larry,
I don't have Acrobat on my computer. But when I do get Acrobat I'll know what to do.
Thanks for the advise.

Re: Help Adjusting Page Guides and Printable Area
You can use Apples Laser writer 8 to set up a virtual printer as well I haven't done this in OS 9.2.2 for quite a while but the Apple help will guide you through it.
Essentially you have to select in the chooser the laser Writer 8 As the printer and pick a printer description and it will create a desktop printer for you.
