[Help] AI warning me of "unexpected results" - why?
When I attempt to save a project of mine in .ai format, I get the following
message :
"When spot colors are used with transparency, changing them to process
colors outside of Illustrator can generate unexpected results."
But there are no process colors among my swatches. In fact, for this
project, I flat out deleted all of the swatches except for [none],
registration, white, black, and the pantone color I am using. Why is AI
under the assumption that anything is in process? How do I make it tell me
what elements are in process color so I can rectify the situation?
Or did I misunderstand what the error message means? Does it mean that I
can't use transparency with spot colors? If so, why not?

it is not an error message, just a warning. If you take the
Pantone based file to a printer and tell him to print in
Process, the colors will deviate.
Process will never exactly look the same as Pantone,
sometimes the difference is small, but a lot of times it is
huge. If you want it to be printed in Pantone, ignore the message.
Because Pantone is just a fixed can of ink, that has the
preference when desiging a logo for instance. You have the
highest security that reprints will look the same, if you do
not change the stock of paper.
Process is always a mix between C,M,Y and K as you know,
more can go wrong and it is often more expensive.

spot colors.
To have spot colors interact with each other colors, use overprinting.
To have a spot color appear at less than 100%, adjust its tint.

What is different with Illustrators handling of transparency and that
of InDesign?
We now have spot color transparency working with InDy.
Spot interacting woth spot
and spot interacting with process.
Both are working with transparency applied
to any of the parts.
