Help: error message when distilling
Can't seem to make a PDF out of a supplied QuarkXPress file. Quark 6.5/Acrobat 7/Distiller 7/MAC OSX 103.9/G5/1500 Mb ram.
This is a new issue of a quarterly magazine our compan puts out, supplied by the agency that made the art and hard copy prints. Previous experiences have just worked fine. This time I get the following message:
%%[ Error: undefined; OffendingCommand: ErrorInfo: DictCRC --nostringval-- ]%%
Stack:
-mark-
-save-
5
%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%
%%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%
Any ideas?

Re: Help: error message when distilling
I tried again using Acrobat 7 driver (ADOBE PDF 7) in my print selection box and it came up with a message that I needed to increase virtual memory in my Acrobat preferences (the postscript file is a whopper: approx 1600 Mb), but I hhave checked Acrobat preferences and Distillerr and can't see anywhere I could change that.
Hmm.

Re: Help: error message when distilling
Jon,
I did state it above. THOUGH I realized that one of my comments (regarding virtual memory) was during my desperation I went back and tried to export from Quark and THAT was what the virtual memory message was generated from.
The first message I copied above was using QuarkXPress 6.5, printed to postscript file using Distiller PPD, high resolution, Press Ready, Distilled using Acrobat 7 (have updgraded to 7.0.2 Acrobat (Professional).
I have since taken another stab at the problem. The photos that were given me from the designer were pretty large files and were EPS files, some exceeding 50 Mb.
I remembered how sometimes large EPS files will be rather touchy to print to laser printers and even commercial systems. Since what I am doing is repurposing the print files to an interactive PDF with links, bookmarks, etc. that isn't going to be lithographed, I opened up each EPS photo and downsampled them to 150 dpi. Re-linked in Quark and then tried again.
Success! I will just assume the issue all along was perhaps the behemoth size of the photos.
Sorry to you and anyone else that might of read this that I didn't list my ultimate solution.
