HELP - Excel files won't import

I'm trying to import formatted Excel files. The import dialog box greys all .xls files out. I've tried everything I can think of - saving to older versions, taking the .xls extension off, changed text import preferences. I've also looked on the web to see if anyone else has had problems and no luck. Any help much appreciated.

I'm using Indesign CS2 4.04 and Excel x.

Have you tried trashing your prefs?

Did you by any chance throw out something from the InDesign CS2 application folder? Check there if you in the Plug-Ins folder, Filters, Sangam Readers have the Reader for Excel.framework .

I don't know how for sure it right butI threw away the preference file in my library for Indesign. Still no change.

Just to make sure you deleted the right one, immediately after launching InDesign, hold down four keys—Cmd+Option+ Shifit + Ctrl—then select to delete preferences.

That didn't do it. I'm going to re-install. Hopefully that works.
