Default HELP: EXTERNAL graphic in Director and file formats with alpha channels

I am currently programming in course where we should use external graphic so
    that
the user can update images etc. later on. At the time we are using JPG
    images, but because it
is 24 bit it does not support the use of alpha channels. This causes white
    pixels to appear around
the images and this is specially a problem in drag and drop exercises where
    the user drag an element
    over various backgrounds.

Does anyone have experience in using external graphics with other file
    formats like PNG and TIFF?
Are there any limitations or other issues that we should be aware of when
    selecting the file format?

As we are importing all the graphic from a photoshop file (the designer
place all the graphic), are there
any good extras for exporting the images from Director to TIFF or PNG after
    everything is placed correctly
    on screen?

    Thanks

People do however, commonly run into problems importing images with alpha
channels. Here's a thread on the subject from Google:

OE annoyingly posted that while I was in the middle of typing (damn
ctrl+enter shortcut!) - I was just about to add that this shouldn't pose
much of a problem because the workaround is simple enough, provided you know
    about the problem in advance.
