Help/Ideas for DB2 / UDB tion? Cookbook? - IBM DB2

Pardon the potential ignorance of the following question. Does anyone know of a cookbook/howto/faq regarding DB2/UDB tion? This would be for 7.2 EE. The more I read, the more confused I get. Basically we are looking for a failover type situation, but there will also be a need to take data from one database, and te it to another for reporting purposes. Thank you in advance. Ted...

    Hi Ted,

You are describing two different requirements. For failover, DB2 uses the
failover mechanism built into the OS (HACMP for AIX, e.g.). Failover does
not typically involve tion ... it provides protection against
processor, server, or os-level failures ... the backup essentially
restarts DB2 on alternate hw and operates against the same storage
    devices.

For the reporting requirement, one would use DB2 tion. See:

    1. The DB2 tion Guide (part of the V7 library).
    2. Search http://www.redbooks.ibm.com for "A Practical Guide to DB2 UDB
tion V8" (SG24-6828), and "My Mother Thinks I'm a DBA!
Cross-Platform, Multi-Vendor, Distributed Relational Data tion with
IBM DB2 Data Propagator and IBM Datajoiner Made Easy".

I would highly recommend that you migrate to V8 first. V8 has a number of
major tion enhancements including a brand-new GUI and new
    monitoring capabilities.

    Hope this helps.
